Antarctica P1 2019
Antarctica
Antarctica was a two week trip hosted by Cheeseman's Eco Safari's.
Chas Glatzer of Shoot The Light had a group of 8 photographers included in the roster of 98 passengers.
This was the most ethereal place on Earth I have ever visited !
Santiago, Chile
We began the long trek to Antarctica flying from Atlanta to Santiago. We spent the night in a hotel.
The following three pictures were taken from my hotel window overlooking the bay.
Puenta Arenas
Flying into Puenta Arenas was challenging. After two aborted attempts to land due to windy conditions, we flew on to Argentina landing at a remote airport. We sat on the tarmac for two hours before flying back to Puenta Arenas. The third try was successful.
Pictures are from a day long birding trip in the area. Spent two nights here.
King George Island
After two days in Puenta Arenas, we flew to Frei Station.
Base Presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva is the most important Antarctic base of Chile. It is located at Fildes Peninsula, an ice-free area, in front of Fildes Bay(Maxwell Bay), west of King George Island, South Shetland Islands.
Landings
We made many landings during our trip, twice on the continent and several on islands of the Antarctic Peninsula. My photographic journey will begin with a few of these !
